I went to a new doctor this afternoon, because I just like trying different ones all the time, and he was the epitome of awesome. He said “I think we have a bit of an oddball here don’t we?” when I walked in (which I take as a large compliment) and when he saw I was interested in his little collection of slightly morbid things in the room, he let me go around and look at them curiously. He let me sit with the skeleton and look at some blood slides and leant me a medical book to look at for a few days, and when he was examining me he told me all about the medical process he was going through and what certain abbreviations actually mean and he let me try and hear the fluid in my lungs on his stethoscope. I just like that he treated me like an intellectual equal and didn’t patronize (which I find a lot of general practitioners tend to do). I had to have another blood test to check my lung, kidney and liver function and I got a treat after because I was feeling a bit faint. When we did our career assessment test thing a few years ago, my result was an overwhelming persuasion towards being suited to the medical profession. Yeah…ok I’m done telling you about irrelevant crap now.
